English translation of selected Humorous poetry by Dr Inam ul Haq Javeid Published
Islamabad (31 October 2015) Dost Publications Islamabad has published a new book of 171 pages titled “wit and wisdom” with a tag price of Rs.360/=. This book contains selected humorous poetry of renowned scholar, poet, critic and researcher Prof. Dr. Inam ul Haq javeid which has been translated into English by Dr. Safdar Ali Shah who has dedicated this book to his granddaughter ZOYA. Dr. Safdar Ali Shah is a well known writer and researcher and he has published a number of books on a variety of subjects including a quarter of coffee-table books on the cultural heritage of Pakistan and colonialism, English and Punjabi. Presently, he is Director Publishing and student Affairs at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad. Dr. Safdar has translated the most popular humorous poems of Dr. Inam ul Haq Javeid who is presently working as the Managing Director of National Book Foundation (NBF). Dr. Inam is a world renowned poet of Urdu and Punjabi. He is the author of more than 50 books of poetry, research and criticism but humorous poetry is his forte of poetic expression. Apart from other awards, he is a recipient of the Presidential award of “Pride of Performance” for his meritorious work in the field of literature.
Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, the translator says the humorous poetry provides much needed catharsis to the common people who are frustrated by prevailing socio-economic conditions. Dr. Safdar has mentioned that Dr. Inam ul Haq Javeid is a representative modern humorist who successfully employs general humor to embellish his poetry. He further has expressed that the reason for selecting Dr. inam ul Haq javeid’s poetry is the quality of humor and its meaningfulness, the wit and wisdom which highlight the serious social malaise in a lighter vein. The translator has mentioned a famous verse of Dr.Inam under the title dedication which speaks “Na Mairon Kay Naam Aur Na Tairon Kay Naam__ Siasat Kay Faslee Batairon Kay Naam”.
